Established in 1993 with foundation stock from the Melkett and Tugby flocks, the Kelsey flock has been added to over the years whenever good stock has become available. We have twice brought in stock bred from semen and embryos imported from New Zealand.
In 1998 the Kelsey flock joined the Hampshire Down Sire Reference Scheme to assist in selecting the best blood-lines for fast growth, high muscling and leanness.
Progress has been accelerated since 2000 when whole body CT scanning became available at the Scottish Agicultural College, Edinburgh. In 2005 the flock received from EBLEX the award for the most progressive flock within the Hampshire Down Sire Reference Scheme.
Rams from the Kelsey flock are sold to breeders, including commercial producers, all over the UK and have been exported to Belgium, Holland, France, Romania and Ireland.
In 1998, 2003 and 2006 the Kelsey flock won the Champion Flock award from the Hampshire Down Sheep Breeders Association.
